Background:
Christi and Cara Brown were first introduced to art at a very young age by their Grandfather who had always dreamed of becoming an artist himself. Instead, he became a physician but never lost his love and passion for art. He collected books of artwork by classic artists and was particularly fond of the fantasy themed, colorful work of Walt Disney and the surreal work of Salvador Dali and M.C. Escher. The twins would spend hours looking at these wonderful books. Their family, providing them with an endless variety of art supplies, encouraged creativity. Being self-taught, each would spend hours studying, tracing, and free-hand copying from these books, eventually finding that watercolor was the most fascinating, versatile and satisfying medium for both. They were enchanted with the unexpected, unique colors and textures that can be created with watercolor. Over the years the twins have discovered their own unique styles of painting and have been influenced by many other artists including, Daniel Merriam, Arther Rackham, Brian Froud, Jody Bergsma, Mary Englebrite, David Delamar, Michael Parks, and Amy Brown.
The girls grew up in Claremont, CA but felt drawn to the beautiful, majestic, and awe-inspiring central coast of California. They settled in the peaceful beach town of Los Osos, CA in San Luis Obispo county. They live near a magical coastal pygmy oak preserve called The Elfin Forest which provides endless inspiration. So, when Cara and Christi began to sell their art seriously in 2004, "The Elfin Forest" seemed to be the perfect name for their traveling fantasy fairy art shop!

Cara and Christi's new book The Fairy's Song was a goal reaching back to approximately 6 years ago when they first started their fantasy art business. They had only a handful of completed paintings that they were reproducing as cards and prints at that time. They often talked about having enough work to produce an entire book someday! They began submitting their fantasy fairy art and poetry as a book idea to publishers about two years ago and were delighted to be offered their first book contract from Schiffer Publishing! They were even more delighted at the response and wonderful reviews they got when they sent samples of the completed book to some of the world's most famous fantasy fairy artists including Amy Brown, Jessica Galbreth, Jody Bergsma, and Jasmine Becket-Griffith.
